Folded for mailing. Five edge tears have been taped on the reverse. Very small chip to one corner. ; Handwritten letter signed Ethel M. Arnold, two pages, approx. 6" wide by 9 3/8". On printed letterhead of Hotel Iroquois, Fireproof, Woolley & Gerrans, Buffalo, N. Y. Dated March 10, 1909. "Dear Mrs. Riggs, Acting on the advice of my agent, & of my cousin Mr. Whitridge, I have decided to give my lecture on 'Arnold of Rugby' in the ball-room of the Waldorf Astoria on the afternoon of Thursday, April 1st. (I hope the day won't prove of ill omen! ) It seems to be de rigueur on these occasions to plague a certain number of one's friends to act as patrons ..." . Ethel M. Arnold was an English author and lecturer. Her uncle was Matthew Arnold, one sister was Mary Augusta Ward, and her nephews included Julian and Aldous Huxley.
